- Rural InternNet -
Increasing Community Access to Nova Scotia Research Intern Programs
- An online database sponsored by the Rural Communities Impacting Policy (RCIP) Project -
Providing links between
community groups
and university & college
research internship-type programs
for rural Nova Scotia.
What the Rural InternNet IS
In our experience, there are many research internship-type programs that exist at universities and community colleges in Nova Scotia, yet there is no centralized place where rural community members, students or academics can go to access these opportunities easily. The RCIP Project has created this database page to centralize information about the different types of research internship-type programs that exist in Nova Scotia - specifically focused on rural areas. For example, a student co-op program.
What it is NOT
This database page is not an internship program. It is simply a way of connecting community members, students and academics with EXISTING internship-type programs. To find out more about a program you see, simply follow the links or use the listed contact information. The RCIP Project assumes no responsibility for anything that happens as a result of this database page.

StFX University - Service Learning Programhttp://www.stfx.ca/academic/servicelearning/ The StFX Service Learning Program is a partnership between undergraduate
students and community groups. Students in specific courses do a
service learning assignment in the community of Antigonish or
neighbouring communities. This can include students completing an
honours thesis or an advanced major paper. The goal of the assignment
is to provide a service to the community while providing the student
with an opportunity for community-based learning. Students can provide
direct service in the community, or be involved in research on behalf of
an organization.

Background
The Rural Communities Impacting Policy (RCIP) Project is based on the “Science-Shop” model. “A science shop provides independent, participatory research support in response to concerns experienced by civil society . Science shops use the term 'science' in its broadest sense, incorporating social and human sciences, as well as natural, physical, engineering and technical sciences.” **
